Whakamātauria Tō Reo Māori
Māori Language Proficiency Examination System
Tēnā koutou katoa,
Whakamātauria Tō Reo Māori is the Māori
language proficiency examination system administered by Te Taura Whiri. It
has been developed with the assistance of local and international
specialists in Māori language and language testing.
There are currently two exams available: the Level
Finder Examination (LFE) and the Public Sector Māori (PSM).
The examinations are administered three times
a year and are open to individuals and organisations who wish to test their
Māori language proficiency against the Whakamātauria Tō Reo Māori
framework.
Level Finder Examination (LFE)
The LFE provides a general indicator of a
person’s ability to aurally recognise words and their knowledge of
vocabulary and grammar.
Public Sector Māori (PSM)
The PSM is designed specifically for people who
use Māori language in the public sector workplace.

Registrations close two weeks prior to the examination dates. If you wish
to sit the LFE or PSM exam please complete the
registration form Please note that
it is customary for candidates to sit and receive results for the LFE exam prior
to sitting the PSM exam. The PSM exam has a pre-requisite of a minimum LFE Level
3 attainment
Examination dates and venues are
